Techfem contributed to the construction of the first hydrogen train refueling station in Italy.
In recent weeks, FNM presented the first hydrogen train in Rovato, which is set to start its service in Val Camonica by mid-2026.
In 2023, acting as the appointed designer for Sapio, Techfem completed the final and executive design for connecting the Rovato refueling station dispenser to the cylinder trailer bay and a Fire & Gas system to ensure the safe loading of hydrogen into the train’s tanks.
In addition to designing the refueling system, Techfem also developed the necessary solutions for the cleaning and maintenance of the trains, including a flushing and inertization system using nitrogen.
This project is part of the H2iseO initiative, promoted by FNM, FERROVIENORD, and Trenord, aimed at creating a Hydrogen Valley in Val Camonica, along the non-electrified Brescia-Iseo-Edolo railway line.
The primary goal of the project is the decarbonization of public transport through the introduction of hydrogen-powered trains and buses.
